Overview

Automotive fraud is a problem both on and off the Internet. UsedCarsAbroad uses the latest tools and technology to combat fraud, so the vast majority of vehicle listings on our site are legitimate. However, we recommend all users exercise caution and conduct basic research before buying or selling a vehicle.

If an activity seems suspicious or a transaction seems unbelievably good, it is probably best to avoid. The Advice for Sellers and Advice for Buyers pages contain details of some automotive scams, but here are a few quick tips to keep in mind:

  • Know a vehicle’s history before making a purchase commitment. Vehicle history reports can be a valuable tool in the purchase process. If you purchase a vehicle history report, make sure you do so through a reputable vendor.
  • Deal locally. Buyers should inspect any vehicle prior to purchase. Sellers should insist that potential buyers conduct a thorough vehicle inspection and meet in open / public places.
  • Verify online payment companies. Avoid payment scams by looking up the online payment or escrow site on your own. Don’t click on a link to a payment site within an email, since it could lead to a fraudulent site.
